I'd be lost without you

This morning at coffee morning we had a couple of men singing songs to make it Christmassy. They were really good but they started off singing this mournful love-song repeatedly singing the line 'I'd be lost without you'. There was this whole line of widowed women looking like they were just about to burst into tears. By the end of it I was beginning to feel a bit weepy. We managed to get them to sing some more cheerful stuff after that - 'So Here It Is Merry Christmas....'

I've invited Mavis to come to us on Christmas Day. She said that she'd had nowhere to go and she'd been trying to get the Salvation Army to take her but they were full up. That seriously made me feel awful.
