Flu brain

I'm not writing about anything very intelligent at the moment because the flu took my brain. Hoping it will soon return.

Valentine's Day

Then Wednesday was Valentine's Day.

We decided to have another Waitrose Valentine's Meal (as in had one last year as well). Photos don't do it justice but it was very nice and very good value.

Crab mousse starter (with added celery).

Butternut squash ravioli with roast diced potatoes and mixed vegetables.

And finally Sicilian lemon cheesecake.

With a surprise blob of lemon jelly in the centre.

All very nice. I could have had a box of chocolates instead as there was a wine or chocolates option but I let P pick a bottle of wine instead because this was Day Two of giving up chocolate. I don't know if there was any link but I had a headache for most of the day yesterday. Today is Day Three and it's been easier except when we go shopping and there is chocolate everywhere.

Above meal was only £20 by the way.

A bit pancaked out

Tuesday was Pancake Day. P made some very nice crepes for lunch.

My favourite savoury filling is tuna and humous and I like 'sweet' ones with just lemon juice.

In the evening we went to the pancake supper at Becky's church. A very pleasant evening. Melon to start, chicken casserole then pancakes for dessert and some good conversation and a quiz.

Today

Gradually the flu symptoms have lessened. The cough has definitely been the most persistent but that seems to be on the way out now. Yay!

Today I went to the doctor because I have persistent indigestion. I need to have an ultrasound and a gastroscopy she said.

Today I have decided to stop eating chocolate because it's really not helping.

Today it has been really cold and right now I'm snuggled up under a fleecy blanket on the sofa.

And now...

And now we have floods.

More snow

And we had a little bit more snow.

Flu drags on

The thing with this flu is you feel a bit better and decide to go out. Then you feel really tired and washed out. Then your cough gets worse.

I will eventually get better I suppose.

Not such a fun time

Sooo...

Thursday last week (as in January 25th) I woke up feeling a bit headachey and under the weather. I got up ok though and did a few things throughout the day.

When I woke on Friday there was an axe in my head.

And I was shivering with the cold.

Even under a doubled over duvet, four blankets and wearing a fleecy dressing gown and nightie I was freezing.

The reality that I'd got flu began to seep into my aching brain.

I spent Friday and Saturday alternately sleeping and counting the minutes until my next dose of painkiller. I was supposed to be going to a healing course on Saturday but that went out of the window (as they say).

On Sunday P went to church leaving me in bed. I managed to get out to the bathroom then felt very sick and faint. At this point I should have sat or lain down on the floor until I felt better but I just wanted to get back to bed. As I got onto the bed everything went black in front of my eyes.

Anyway since then it has been a slow recovery. After a while of being up I start to feel dizzy, I have a horrible cough which is gradually lessening and I feel low and grumpy (which happens to me after flu). I missed church again this morning but P picked me up for the after-church lunch and I felt spaced-out and not really like talking to anyone and wasn't hungry anyway. It was nice to get out though.

So that has been what the last week or so has been like.
